Overview

Motosumo has developed smartphone-based quantification tech that measures cadence, speed, distance and calorie burn using accelerometers and gyroscopes, enabling real-time feedback without proprietary bike sensors. Its platform streams live spin classes hosted by a global network of instructors and offers interactive 3D games, team challenges and international leaderboards. The company says its proprietary, machine‑learning trained algorithms reach accuracy similar to built-in bike sensors and supports optional external sensors if users want more data. Motosumo operates a B2B product (Momentum) with over 25,000 users and has passed 100,000 downloads in the last year, and is now scaling a B2C offering under the Motosumo brand. Pricing starts at $13 per month for unlimited access; the platform currently runs more than 40 live workouts per week with five active coaches and five more to be onboarded in the next six weeks. The company emphasizes low livestream delay (about 0.5 seconds) to enable real-time instructor feedback and community interaction. Motosumo builds gait analysis systems based on body-mounted inertial sensors and advanced sensor-data analysis and modeling of motion physics. Its core offering is a cloud-connected fitness technology platform that links members, instructors, classes, training concepts and gyms without requiring new hardware. The company’s first app targeted indoor cycling, using a smartphone mounted on the bike to display real-time cadence and kcal. The cloud solution automatically connects groups so users can compare and compete while instructors monitor performance and interact via messages and ratings. Motosumo serves verticals including universities, training camps, high-end sports outlets, physiotherapists, test centers and elite athletes. The company received an investment and plans to use the funds to expand its product portfolio. Copenhagen-based Motosumo spent three years developing gait-analysis systems using body-mounted sensors and its own motion-physics algorithm, applied to professional sports, physiotherapy, and athletics. The startup is now pivoting to consumer-facing fitness and sports-tracking apps that rely solely on the inertial sensors found in modern smartphones, removing the need for separate motion sensors. Its first app targets indoor cycling/spinning: users mount their phone on the bike handlebars and the app displays cadence (pedal revolutions per minute) in real time. Motosumo also emphasizes new, more intuitive visualizations and data interpretation to make advanced analysis understandable and actionable for everyday athletes. CEO Kresten Juel Jensen says the approach lowers the activation barrier created by pricey and inconvenient external gadgets. To aid that mission the company has raised $500,000 from Denmark’s SEED Capital.
