Mr. Number is a mobile app available for iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry that adds layers of control to phone-based communications. Its features let users indicate when it’s a good time to call, request a text instead, accept voice messages, perform lookup-based caller ID, block calls and messages, and report spam. The service aims to remove the guessing game of how best to reach someone and give users more control over phone communication. Nearly 3 million people have signed up for the service so far, CEO Jason Devitt said. The company raised funding to scale and build new functionality while keeping the core service free, with small fees for reverse lookups.
