Mr Turbino is an invention developed by Alan D’Alfonso Peral that allows a diver to aspirate underwater debris, with a focus on plastic pollution. The company has launched production and plans to deliver 50 units in October while aiming to equip 250 dive centers accredited by the French diving federation, primarily in the Mediterranean. It estimates those 250 centers could collect roughly 60 to 100 tonnes of waste per year based on expected sortie frequencies and average collection per dive. To supply the remaining 200 units for free to dive centers, Mr Turbino has raised about €125,000 from sponsors and is seeking an additional €450,000 via partners or crowdfunding. The federation has had exchanges with the inventor but has not formalized a partnership, while the Spanish group IPM-IMG will begin using the device in its marinas starting in October.
