Muthoot Microfin is the microfinance arm of the Thiruvanathapuram-based Muthoot Pappachan Group that provides financial services to primarily women entrepreneurs across India. The firm operates roughly 1,000 branches across 18 states and serves about 2.3 million women entrepreneurs. It reported an AUM of Rs 7,300 crore and low non-performing loans of 0.16%. In FY22 its AUM grew 25% and profit surged six-fold; in the first two quarters of the current financial year AUM grew by 20% (amount undisclosed). The company intends to use new capital to maintain growth momentum, expand operations and extend services to rural households. Chairman Thomas John Muthoot said the additional equity will raise the company's capital adequacy to 28%, supporting immediate growth needs.
