Muut (formerly Moot) offers a flexible, embeddable discussion platform that combines forums and commenting with customizable design and mobile support. Site owners can choose flat or threaded comments, single sign-on, custom navigation, pre-built themes via a graphical designer, private forums, image uploads and other integrations, and the platform supports iOS and Android. Since launch last April the company has grown to 28,000 customers and 300,000 users, with the application loading roughly 150 million times per month and adding thousands of new users per day. Muut operates a freemium model with paid plans starting at $8/month and the company says revenue has been growing at about 30% per month on average over the past six months, though it declined to disclose absolute revenue figures. The team of nine was founded by Courtney Couch with Tero Piirainen and Janne Lehtinen, and the product competes with Discourse, Livefyre and Disqus. Planned product work includes forum data importers, WordPress and other platform integrations, API documentation, administrative features and continued product development through 2014.
