Mylestone builds a service that turns users' photos, videos and audio into narrated personal memories accessible through an Alexa skill. Users upload media that is analyzed by AI and machine learning, supplemented by human-assisted review to extract metadata, recognize landmarks, determine dates and locations, and fill in details computers cannot infer. The Alexa skill lets people ask for stories about loved ones or specific memories, and the company plans future features to scan Facebook, Instagram and other social accounts to automatically create memories without manual uploads. Mylestone’s founder says the intent is to create narratives for users rather than host their content, and the team is exploring integrations such as surfacing related imagery on Fire TV. The team is led by founder and CEO Dave Balter, with Head of Engineering Jim Myers and Head of Advocacy Jon O’Toole; Balter previously founded BzzAgent and Smarterer. The startup acquired the photo‑scanning app Heirloom in April 2016 and has raised funding, including a new $2.5M round that brings its total to $4.5M. Mylestoned offers a beta platform that lets users submit memories via a conversational text-messaging interface and returns a collection of memories for contributors to view and share. New memories can be added at any time. Future releases will add locations, dates or events relevant to the person or memory. The product will also enable friends and acquaintances to prepare tributes that can be delivered and shared sensitively with family at funerals and beyond. The company is led by Dave Balter. Mylestoned closed a $1.5M seed round and intends to use the funds to continue to expand operations.
