Namshi
Unit 3219-2-3, Emaar Gold & Diamond Park, Al Quoz, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Overview
Namshi is a Dubai-based online fashion retailer founded in 2012 that sells shoes and other apparel across six Middle East markets (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain). The site carries roughly 550 brands, including Nike, Lacoste, Polo Ralph Lauren and Puma. Rocket Internet incubates the business and Namshi has pursued rapid market expansion in the region. The company says the new funding will be used to “sustain its accelerated growth target” and to improve fulfilment operations. Specifically, Namshi plans to move stock to a new centralized Namshi warehouse and distribution center, replacing the shared space it currently uses with Aramex. Rocket Internet would only confirm the most recent investment amount and described prior funding as a “high double-digit amount.” Namshi is a Dubai-based e-commerce start-up that offers designer clothing and footwear to customers in the Gulf region. Launched in late 2011 by managing director Muhammed Mekki and three partners, the site offers products from over 400 international brands. According to reports, Namshi has received an investment of over $20m. Backers include J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Blakeney Management. The company intends to use the capital to expand operations, mainly in Saudi Arabia. Namshi is currently hiring.
