Nanodropper

1016 N 45th St, Seattle, Washington, 98103, United States

Overview

Nanodropper is a Rochester, Minn.-based medical device company led by co-founder and CEO Allisa Song. The company has developed a universal eyedrop bottle adaptor that reduces eyedrop size by allowing users to simply remove the original cap. The adaptor is designed to make drops smaller for standard eyedrop bottles. Nanodropper completed a $1.4 million seed funding round. Backers included Golden Seeds, Rochester Area Economic Development, members of the Austin Area Angels and the Seattle-based Alliance of Angels. The April 2021 seed round represents the company’s disclosed recent financing activity. Nanodropper developed an FDA-approved adapter that screws onto eyedropper bottles to deliver drops roughly a quarter smaller, aiming to reduce medication waste and costs for glaucoma patients. The smaller drops remain large enough to deliver medication effectively. The device has class I FDA approval with a 510(k) exemption and will retail for $12.99. Following its launch a year ago, the startup has raised $60,000 primarily from healthcare providers and also won a $15,000 grand prize plus a $2,500 medical device consulting award. The company said it will use the prize money to begin manufacturing the product in Minnesota. Five eye care clinics are interested in presales, and Nanodropper is in talks with Premera Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente and Bartell Drugs. The team includes Allisa Song (a Mayo Clinic medical student), UW graduate students Jennifer Steger and Mackenzie Andrews, and mechanical engineer Elias Baker.
