Overview
Nanome is a San Diego-based startup building a virtual reality platform that lets researchers view, manipulate, and collaboratively work on 3D molecular structures. CEO and founder Steve McCloskey conceived the idea while in UC San Diego's nanoengineering program. The platform is designed to overcome limitations of 2D monitors and speed understanding of complex molecular shapes, which the company says can reduce R&D friction and support remote collaboration. Nanome has executed projects with companies in the food and beverage sector and on sustainable battery development. With new funding, the company plans to expand into pharmaceutical chemistry, synthetic biology, and education. An upcoming product update, "Spatial Recording," will allow users to record VR sessions for later review and for producing lectures and lessons.
