Overview

Narrative, based in Linköping, Sweden, makes wearable cameras including the Narrative Clip 2. The company recently ran into financial trouble and entered a court-authorized reorganisation. Immediately after the reorganisation was authorised, Narrative closed a financing round from investor Front Office. The firm says the fresh capital will be used to substantially increase production to satisfy high demand for the Clip 2. Management, including CEO Martin Källström, says the funding will allow the company to seriously ramp up production and leverage customer demand. The financing is intended to keep operations running while the company scales manufacturing. Narrative is a Swedish startup founded in 2012 that makes the Narrative Clip, a lightweight 5‑megapixel wearable camera that automatically takes photos at set intervals and can capture on demand via double tap. The camera pairs with Android and iOS apps that let users view, organize and search automatically grouped photo sequences for sharing. Its small, minimalist design aims to be unobtrusive compared with head‑mounted devices. Narrative supplemented seed funding with a 2012 Kickstarter that raised more than $550,000 and later took a $3M VC round. The company has raised $12.2M to date. The latest funding will be used to push into the U.S. market, expand local sales and retail efforts, open a San Francisco office as its U.S. base, and grow the team with hires in development, sales, logistics, design and ecommerce. Narrative produces the Narrative Clip, a small wearable lifelogging camera that takes a photo every 30 seconds and records geolocation, date and time. Photos are 5 megapixels and the device has a rechargeable battery that lasts up to two days. The company sells the Clip for $279 and is taking pre-orders in three colors, with first shipments planned for November. Narrative rebranded from Memoto to Narrative to avoid trademark conflicts and to enable broader global ambitions and additional product development. The product uploads captured images to an online service for review and sharing. Financially, the company raised $550,000 on Kickstarter and has secured an additional $3 million in new financing to support global expansion. Memoto is a Stockholm-based startup building a compact "lifelogging" camera designed to clip to clothing and bags and automatically capture important moments. The product is described as small enough to "never be in the way" and stores images securely. The company ran a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $550K (its initial goal was $50K) and thousands of units were purchased through the campaign. In addition to the crowdfunding haul, Memoto secured a seed funding round from Passion Capital. The Kickstarter proceeds and the seed round were intended to let the team fully focus on product development. An update (March 2023) notes the startup appears no longer in business under its original website and the original link was deactivated.
