Overview
NeOnc Technologies is a clinical-stage medical biotechnology company focused on the NEO™ platform, a set of proprietary drug candidates and intranasal delivery methods designed to improve penetration of the blood–brain barrier. The platform has produced an extensive patent portfolio (135 U.S. and international patents issued and pending) licensed exclusively from the University of Southern California. Lead candidates NEO100™ and NEO212™ are advancing in Phase II (and Phase I for other programs) and have secured FDA Fast-Track and Orphan Drug designations. The company says published studies and laboratory data support the platform’s viability as a delivery vehicle for chemotherapeutics and potential benefit in brain metastases and primary brain tumors. Financially, NeOnc completed an $18.5 million financing that included $4.5 million in new equity and conversion of $14 million in outstanding notes and USC accounts payable, eliminating short-term debt and setting a post-money valuation of approximately $220 million. Management has indicated the financing strengthens the balance sheet and provides the equity requirements to pursue a potential direct listing on a national stock exchange. NeOnc focuses on creating novel drugs and delivery methods for pharma-based therapeutics that target brain and central nervous system diseases. Its lead product, NEO 100, is an enhanced method of delivering therapeutics to the brain and completed Phase One clinical trials in April 2019; NEO 100 is classified as an orphan drug and is on an FDA fast-track pathway. The company is advancing Phase 2 clinical trials of NEO 100 for Grade IV gliomas and has begun work on a pediatric rare disease indication for children with high-grade gliomas. NeOnc expects to launch Phase One clinical trials for its second drug, NEO 212, and plans to submit NEO 212 for investigational new drug approval while filing for pediatric rare disease designation by the end of 2023. The company reports a patent portfolio of 95 U.S. and international patents and attributes its technology to more than a decade of R&D. Financially, NeOnc states its funding to date (equity and NIH grants) totals approximately $14.0 million.
