Neptune Nanotechnologies

Overview
Neptune Nanotechnologies extracts chitin nanocrystals from organic fishing waste (e.g., crab shells) and sells them as a sustainable performance additive for plastics, epoxy composites, pulp and paper, and other applications. The company’s nanocrystals claim to more than double flexural strength in paper trays and to substantially strengthen recycled paper with as little as 1% loading. Neptune sources purified shell waste from existing fisheries supply chains and resells purified shells back into that industry, which helps offset costs and ensures a consistent feedstock. With recent partnerships and field tests underway, the company has developed a pilot plant for scalable nanocrystal manufacturing. Neptune emphasizes recyclable single-layer films and down‑gauging opportunities to reduce material use and CO2 emissions across packaging markets. The company recently raised $1.8 million and plans further funding rounds to scale production and penetrate target markets.
