Nestpick is a long-term rental startup that connects tenants — from students to expats and young professionals — with landlords through an online platform, a dedicated team and a verification system. For landlords, the company offers a guarantee insurance policy that covers rent during vacant periods if Nestpick cannot find a suitable tenant for verified listings. For tenants, it provides an assured insurance policy offering housing for up to 30 days if the booked property does not match the description or is inaccessible. Launched in 2014 in Rotterdam by Fabian Dudek, the company is Berlin-based and expanded in 2015 to 35 cities across eight European countries and Australia. Nestpick recently hired Luciana Eletti as Head of Customer Experience and plans to use its new funding to improve customer experience in 2016. Financially, the company raised an $11M Series A in November and subsequently secured an additional $2M follow-on investment. Nestpick operates an online platform that aims to digitise the entire rental process and reduce the need for in-person viewings. The company targets tenants and landlords, having broadened from international students and expats to include local tenants (now over 30% of its customer base). Nestpick lists more than 21,000 homes and says it transacted over €16 million in rental income for landlords in the last year. It is active in 35 cities across eight European countries and has recently launched in Australia. The startup charges a fee to tenants for every transaction finalised via the site and positions itself as solving fraud and inefficiency in classifieds-based renting. The company is backed (but not founded) by Rocket Internet.
