CEO Costa Tsaousis said the new funding will be used to accelerate research and development and build on community momentum to deliver innovations in the open-source project and future commercial products. After this round Netdata has raised a total of $31M. Netdata builds an open-source monitoring tool and a complementary SaaS offering, with an agent that delivers hundreds of metrics every second. The agent is distributed — it does not centralize collection but provides insights where data lives — and the open-source project gets roughly half a million downloads per day and has hundreds of contributors. The company offers a “massively free plan” for its SaaS product and charges by seat for paid tiers rather than by the amount of monitored infrastructure. Founder Costa Tsaousis began developing the project around 2014 and released it to the public in 2016; Netdata now operates from San Francisco and has 24 employees. Tsaousis aims for Netdata to change how people perceive and adopt monitoring by using large free tiers to drive adoption. The company recently raised funding to support continued growth and product adoption.
