Neurotrack

303 Twin Dolphin Dr. Ste 600, Redwood City, CA, 94065, United States

Overview

Neurotrack offers a digital cognitive assessment that runs on phones, laptops and tablets and tracks eye movements to evaluate memory and attention. The company recently launched a three‑minute test designed for faster screening during annual wellness exams and for ongoing monitoring. Its assessment displays paired images and tracks gaze to infer hippocampal memory function, with prompts to return at intervals to track change over time. Neurotrack says it has enabled more than 150,000 cognitive assessments for customers including Japanese insurers Dai‑ichi Life and SOMPO Holdings. The company is developing a provider‑based solution for patients identified with cognitive decline and plans to accelerate a go‑to‑market push with health systems and providers. It also announced a clinical advisory board to guide product and clinical integration with members from Aledade, UCLA Health, Premise Health/Kaiser and other clinical roles. Neurotrack develops digital programs, including its Memory Health Program, to assess, preserve and strengthen memory health. The company provides an at‑home test and a follow‑up Memory Health Program used in pilots and partnerships. It plans to use new funding to drive adoption of the Memory Health Program and continue product development and global partnerships. Neurotrack has commercial partnerships to embed its products in insurance offerings and corporate pilots. In a 16‑week SOMPO pilot more than 550 employees took its test and followed the Memory Health Program for four months. The company was co‑founded in 2012 and is based in Redwood City, California; total funding to date exceeds $50M. Neurotrack builds a digital memory health platform offering proprietary cognitive assessment and digital therapeutics to assess, manage, and track brain health. Its flagship Imprint cognitive assessment is based on 30 years of scientific research and the platform includes a forthcoming memory health program. The company intends to continue developing the platform using evidence from large randomized controlled studies such as the FINGER and MIND diet studies. Scientific co-founders Stuart Zola, Ph.D., Elizabeth Buffalo, Ph.D., and Cecelia Manzanares, along with Chief Science Officer Nick Bott, Psy.D., have driven the research behind the product. Elli Kaplan, co-founder and CEO, leads the company’s commercial efforts. In March 2018 Neurotrack raised $13.7m in Series B funding to fund further product and program development. Neurotrack has released Imprint™, a 5-minute web-based cognitive assessment that uses eye-tracking to assess recognition memory and hippocampal impairment, built on more than 30 years of research led by Dr. Stuart Zola. The Imprint test is validated by a five-year NIH-sponsored longitudinal study and is being used by leading research institutions with more than 3,000 people in Alzheimer’s studies and in pharmaceutical trials. The company also announced a private beta of a personalized cognitive health program combining diet, exercise, cognitive training, sleep and stress management based on published research. Neurotrack partnered with UK-based Mind Agilis to develop cognitive training tools and plans to begin a clinical study of the cognitive health product in Spring 2016. The Imprint test is slated to become available through select physicians in 2016. Neurotrack raised $6.5 million in new funding to accelerate research, product development, and recruiting, bringing total financing to $9.5 million. Neurotrack Technologies builds a computer-based predictive test that the company says can identify Alzheimer’s disease three to six years before the first symptoms appear. Its algorithmic analysis purports to pick up anomalies in hippocampal function years before visible memory-center damage. The tool is being used with pharmaceutical companies to assess and recruit potential patients for early-stage clinical trials. The company spun out of Emory University in 2012 and is based in Palo Alto. Financially, a regulatory filing shows Neurotrack raised $1 million in debt; last year it raised $2 million in a Series A equity round backed by Peter Thiel’s Founder’s Fund. The company declined to comment on the recent debt raise, and CEO Ellie Kaplan has discussed the tool’s potential role in enabling earlier preventative care and trial screening.
