Newness is a live-streaming platform focused on beauty creators, offering public and private streams, in-house moderation, and engagement mechanics that reward positive contributions. The product includes a heart-based chat reputation system and virtual items called crystals that viewers earn for quality participation and can redeem for full-size beauty products sourced via brand deals. Creators can host private paid events with general admission and VIP tickets, and everyday streams support in-app tipping called “gifting.” The startup has been in beta testing since last year, is currently web-only, and reports about 66% of viewers chat during live streams on average. Newness is invite-only and handpicks early creators to maintain a wholesome community; the team is roughly 14 people spread across San Francisco, New York, and L.A.
