NewsDog is a news-aggregation app that delivers personalized content to Indian users via machine-learning-driven recommendations and a user-submitted "WeMedia" platform. The service covers ten of India’s languages and claims over 50 million users. App Annie ranks NewsDog as the top news app in the Google Play Store in India; Sensor Tower reports 43 million installs and 76% year-on-year download growth in Q1. The company was launched in 2016 by Forrest Chen Yukun and Yi Ma (Chen is a Tsinghua computer science graduate; Yi Ma holds a PhD from Princeton and previously worked at Baidu and Goldman Sachs). NewsDog plans to use new funding to add more languages, deepen its content library and double down on machine learning to improve content matching. It competes with Dailyhunt, Inshorts, NewsPoint and UC News as it pursues further user growth.
