Newton is a Toronto-based mobile cryptocurrency brokerage developing a commission-free app to let Canadians trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. The platform is currently in closed beta and plans to launch open trading with Android and web apps in the fourth quarter. Newton entered a partnership with Chicago-based DV Trading to support growth and integration into DV’s crypto trading platform run by DVx Capital Markets. DV Trading will provide an initial undisclosed equity investment and up to $15 million in additional low-interest debt that is conditionally released as Newton meets performance targets. The company was founded by Dustin Walper, former CEO of Akira, and will also leverage the market and regulatory expertise of DV Trading and its subsidiary Independent Trading Group. Newton says the partnership will expand institutional and retail participation in Canada’s crypto market and provide the confidence of working with a regulated financial institution.
