Overview
NextBit is a stealth mobile startup led by former Android engineers Tom Moss and Mike Chan. The founders say they are working on an idea to change the core user experience of a mobile OS but decline to disclose product details; they note it is not a fork of Android and does not compete with firms like CyanogenMod or Anfacto. The company is pre-product and pre-revenue and says it might launch this year. NextBit raised $18M from Accel and Google Ventures and plans to use the funding to hire engineers. Rich Miner (Google Ventures) and Rich Wong (Accel) are joining the company's board. The founders cite strategic reasons for staying in stealth to avoid larger competitors copying their idea and point to prior success—Moss previously sold 3LM to Motorola Mobility—and Chan's background leading power management for Android.
