NextGen Jane makes a custom tampon and home kit that users wear for roughly two hours, place in a test tube, and send to a lab for analysis of menstrual blood. The startup is developing the test to find early markers of endometriosis and hopes to later apply the approach to cervical cancer and other disorders. Its technology has not been proven and has not received FDA approval. CEO and co-founder Ridhi Tariyal has a clinical trial designed and ready to run on roughly 800 women to establish diagnostic efficacy. With the new funding the company expects it would take about two years to collect a meaningful amount of data from the trial.
