Overview
NextMind develops a discrete, noninvasive brain-sensing device and software that uses machine-learning algorithms and artificial neural networks to translate brain waves into direct digital commands in real time. The product targets mass-market applications including games, virtual and augmented reality headsets, and control of electronic and mobile devices. The technology was spun out of the Brain and Consciousness Lab at École Normale Supérieure and the team includes Ph.D. scientists led by founder Sid Kouider. The company combines new brain-sensing hardware with ML to reduce calibration and discomfort and create a more organic translation of neural activity. NextMind announced plans to introduce its hardware and software in 2019. It raised $4.6 million to support commercialization, including a $1 million innovation award from BPIFrance and investments from private contributors.
