NextUp Comedy is a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform that films and streams stand-up comedy specials via 5-star rated mobile and TV apps. It focuses exclusively on stand-up, championing both established names and emerging acts and has increased filming at the Edinburgh Fringe. During its Crowdcube campaign it hit its £300k target in 10 days and had raised over £350k from more than 370 investors with seven days of fundraising remaining, aiming to overfund to £400k to accelerate marketing ahead of 2020. The company announced a strategic filming partnership with Soho Theatre, an autumn season, and more specials filmed at this year’s Fringe. Founders and early backers include industry figures such as co-founder Stuart Snaith and Bruce Tuchman, and notable comedians have invested, which the team says has helped build momentum. Management is focused on converting that momentum into wider distribution and subscriber growth.
