Nido Surgical is advancing CardioPort, a novel patented platform designed to enable video-endoscopic trans-cardiac surgical repairs inside the beating heart. The device is designed to be inserted through small incisions in the chest and heart wall and provides video-endoscopic visualization via a camera and light source encased in a bulb lens. Its body includes a channel for standard thoracoscopic/laparoscopic instruments and catheter-based device delivery systems, plus a fluid purging system to prevent air and debris from entering the bloodstream during instrument insertion. The initial clinical application is repair of congenital heart defects. The company plans to use newly raised capital to finance device development and First-In-Man studies. Nido has also received a $1.4M STTR grant from the NIH to support the work.
