Nightfall
425 California Street Suite 1200, San Francisco, CA, 94104, United States
Overview
Nightfall’s platform monitors data flowing into and out of apps like Slack, Salesforce, Google Drive, Confluence and Jira, using machine learning to classify content as sensitive, personally identifiable, noncompliant, or safe. It exposes detectors and response actions via an API and SDK and ships pretuned PII detectors that spot items such as leaked keys, credit card numbers, names, locations, phone numbers, Social Security numbers and cryptocurrency wallet addresses. The company has launched partnerships with Snyk, Cribl, Virtru, Hanzo and others to embed Nightfall’s detection capabilities into partner offerings. Proceeds from the recent financing will be used to double Nightfall’s 60-person headcount, scale the platform to more customers and markets, and expand its partner ecosystem. Customers named in the article include Klaviyo, UserTesting and Rightway, and the company says it serves “hundreds” of others in the private sector. Nightfall has scanned over 40 million sensitive data findings and is based in San Francisco. Nightfall offers an AI-based, cloud-native data loss prevention platform that integrates with and automatically scans structured and unstructured data across hundreds of applications (including Slack, GitHub and AWS) to detect sensitive information. The platform can take automated or manual actions—delete, redact, quarantine, or notify relevant teams—to secure detected data. While in stealth it worked with high-growth startups such as Grofers and Exabeam and later expanded its customer base to Fortune 500 companies. The company emerged from stealth with $20.3 million in funding and had previously raised just under $5 million in angel financing that had not been disclosed. Nightfall says it will use the new capital to expand the scope of what it can detect and where, and to build out its business. Co-founders Isaac Madan and Rohan Sathe repositioned the company from the original name Watchtower AI to reflect expanded capabilities.
