Nithio FAIR is the Facility for Adaptation, Inclusion, and Resilience, an investment vehicle operated through climate fintech platform Nithio. It focuses on scaling financing towards distribution of solar home systems and solar productive-use appliances to expand energy access across Africa. The vehicle recently secured a USD 10 million strategic financing from FMO, provided via the Access to Energy Fund that FMO manages on behalf of the Dutch government. The financing is intended to scale financing towards solar home systems and solar use appliances distribution through Nithio's platform. Through Nithio, the investment is expected to provide energy access to roughly 160,000 people, support about 7,000 SMEs, and avoid over 500,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions. The announcement framed the capital as strategic support for growth, innovation, and climate resilience in the region. Nithio provides finance and underwriting tools and geospatial data products to serve distributed energy companies, capital providers, governments, and other stakeholders in the off-grid solar sector in Africa. Its platform enables more granular assessment of consumer credit risk, climate risk, and behavioral differences across customers to target lending even in remote locations. Nithio also acts as infrastructure for large capital providers to pool and deploy concessional funds and to purchase consumer receivables from distributed energy companies, providing liquidity and working capital. The company was launched to scale off-grid solutions and expand modern energy access to underserved households across the continent. Leadership includes Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO Héla Cheikhrouhou and Co-Founder and COO Kate Steel, both with extensive public-sector and sector-specific experience. The launch and seed investment are positioned to help deploy blended finance with greater precision and facilitate rapid expansion of targeted financing in the off-grid ecosystem.
