Nixie
22510 Jameson Dr, Calabasas, California, 91302, United States
Overview
Nixie is building a wearable selfie drone: a flying wristband with an onboard camera that launches off the wearer’s wrist, reorients to frame the subject, and hovers back to be caught. The team has a prototype that can launch and float away, but the device is still early-stage and appears fragile. The project is led by Christoph Kohstall (a physics researcher at Stanford) with collaborators Jelena Jovanovic and Michael Niedermayr. Nixie was a finalist in Intel’s Make It Wearable competition and received a $50,000 prize. Intel additionally provides mentorship, design help, and technical support intended to help the team make the concept real. The article does not report any revenue or user metrics.
