Overview
Nodal Power, led by CEO Bryan Black and based in Salt Lake City, develops and operates landfill gas-to-energy power plants that combust methane to generate renewable electricity. The company raised $13M in Seed funding, with backers undisclosed, and intends to use proceeds to expand operations and business reach to mitigate methane emissions at landfills. By combusting methane in generators Nodal Power reduces carbon emissions compared with flaring or venting and creates beneficial use for otherwise wasted landfill gas. Much of the Seed funding has already been deployed to build and operate two U.S. power plants. Site one, located in the southeast U.S., exports electricity generated by landfill gas to the local utility and is equipped with a data center enabling economic dispatch between the utility and the data center. Site two, located in the mountain west, runs a fully sustainable off-grid data center powered by landfill gas. The company plans to deploy additional funds at a third U.S. site in early 2024.
