Nof1 operates an artificial intelligence trading laboratory that runs a public experiment called Alpha Arena, which pits frontier AI models from firms such as OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, xAI and Alibaba against each other in real financial markets. In Seasons 1 and 1.5, eight models each received $10,000 in real capital and competed across 32 sets of results, with models finishing profitable only six times. The lab's stated purpose is to evaluate how effectively AI systems can learn to allocate capital and manage risk under market uncertainty. Nof1 plans a Season 2 in which it will develop its own models equipped with web search, extended reasoning time, and multi-step execution. After Season 2, the company intends to launch a consumer platform featuring its frontier models and what it describes as the world's first coding agents for markets. The lab says it uses an open-ended AI architecture intended to continually improve and eventually outperform human and algorithmic traders.
