Nokomis Energy is a clean energy development platform that focuses on 1–30 MW distribution grid-sited projects across the Upper Midwest. The company partners with local organizations, businesses, and utilities to identify opportunities for community solar, behind-the-meter, and direct-to-utility projects. Founded in 2017 and based in Minneapolis, Nokomis has developed more than 45 projects to date. The company announced a $30 million investment from Great Bay Renewables to expand its growing portfolio of distribution-sited projects across the Midwest. Management says the capital will allow Nokomis to adopt a long-term perspective, advance its existing portfolio, and scale its distributed generation platform in established and emerging Upper Midwest markets. Nokomis intends to replicate utility-scale development success at distribution scale by leveraging Great Bay’s partner-like capital and expertise.
