Overview
Nordtreat is a Finnish technology company founded in 2015 that develops and produces bio-based, environmentally friendly flame retardants under its NORFLAM® brand. Its products comply with current fire protection regulations and have been used to protect more than 2,000 buildings and structures worldwide. The company relies on bio-based raw materials and targets demand for sustainable fire protection solutions, particularly in the wood-based construction industry. Nordtreat has expanded its product and service portfolio since founding and emphasizes certified fire retardants and flame retardant systems. As part of its growth plans it has agreed with Altana’s BYK division to jointly develop a bio-based flame retardant additive. Management states the new investors will help exploit the growth potential of the technology and accelerate market adoption of more environmentally friendly product solutions. Nordtreat develops and manufactures environmentally friendly, non-toxic fire retardants based on bio-based acids, with a patented fire protection technology focused especially on wood construction and building materials from renewable raw materials. The company’s products are commercialized to replace traditional fire retardants that contain compounds harmful to humans and the environment, such as boric acid, formaldehyde and ammonia. Founded in 2015, Nordtreat operates its own production plant in Vantaa and employs 22 people across Finland, France, Germany and Poland. The company has completed a latest financing round that raised a total of €4.0 million to support growth. Proceeds from the round will be used to accelerate international expansion, expand the product portfolio and develop production capacity at the Vantaa plant. Nordtreat positions itself for growth in the construction-products market as sustainability requirements tighten.
