NovoEd builds a collaborative, group-driven massive open online course (MOOC) platform aimed at making online education stickier and reducing dropout rates. The company says its approach increases online course retention rates by more than 10x and is improving college graduation rates by tackling remedial math. NovoEd launched in April 2013 and began as Venture Lab, a project run by a Stanford professor and a PhD student. The site has partnered with UC Berkeley, Princeton, and other educational organizations to deliver courses. Financially, NovoEd has raised just over $2.04 million to date, per a public SEC filing. The company positioned its most recent raise as a way to address online education's engagement problem.
