Overview
Nowi is a Delft-based semiconductor company developing patented energy-harvesting power management integrated circuits (PMICs). Founded in 2015, the startup is focused on commercializing its multi-patented energy-harvesting PMIC technology for IoT, consumer and semiconductor applications. Nowi says its approach can address size and cost constraints in high-volume, low-price markets and competes with incumbents such as Texas Instruments and Analog Devices. The company planned a commercial release in 2020 and expected to launch its first NW-A2.3 Energy Harvesting PMIC in the first half of 2020. Nowi intends to grow its team, expand commercial activities, and pursue collaborations with partners on longer time horizons as it transitions from a startup to a more mature organization. The company retains a majority position following the new funding and reports a promising sales funnel and growing commercial organization. Nowi, founded in 2015 and based in Delft, develops a small patented chip that enables IoT devices to harvest ambient energy. Its core product is an Energy Harvesting technology that captures light, heat, movement and radio waves to extend or eliminate battery use. The company is translating its low-power energy-harvesting position into a market-ready chip for devices such as smart watches, sensors and asset trackers. Nowi received €1 million in funding from RVO to support commercialisation and product readiness. It previously raised €1.5 million from the Disruptive Technology Ventures fund in 2018, bringing disclosed funding to €2.5 million. CEO Simon van der Jagt says the technology aims to make IoT devices 'Plug & Forget' as the market scales toward 30 billion connected devices. Nowi develops an IoT power module technology that can power different types of sensors in different environments using a range of energy-harvesting and battery-hybrid options. The Nowi Power Module uses external energy sources as an additional means of power for small sensors. This approach enables creation of sensors that are either completely battery-less or hybrid battery sensors with greatly extended lifetimes. Led by CEO Simon van der Jagt, the company is focused on further development and commercialization of its technology. Nowi is based in Delft, The Netherlands.
