NPHarvest

Otakaari 5, Espoo, Uusimaa, 02150, Finland

Overview

NPHarvest is developing a patented nutrient-recovery system that captures, refines and recirculates nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater, liquid digestate and other organic waste streams. Its technology is aimed at solving the growing nutrient-overload problem faced by European waste-to-energy plants that can no longer locally spread excess liquid digestate under EU nitrogen limits. The company has progressed from pilot projects to launching its first industrial-scale demonstrator unit at a waste-to-energy plant in Ankara, Türkiye, and field trials with the University of Helsinki’s Viikki research farm showed its recycled fertilizers perform on par with conventional synthetics. NPHarvest plans to scale its systems across major agricultural and industrial markets in Northern Germany, Northern France and the Benelux region. To date, it has secured €2.2 million from Nordic Foodtech VC, the Finnish Ministry of the Environment and other backers, and it has won multiple awards such as “Save the Baltic Sea 2025” and the European Biomethane Week “Inspiration Challenge 2024.” The company’s near-term focus is to turn validated performance into repeatable commercial deployments while reducing European dependence on imported nutrients. Its roadmap includes meeting technical and commercial milestones tied to its new accelerator funding so it can achieve full-scale commercialization.
