Overview
Nua is a Mumbai-based women's wellness D2C brand founded in late 2016 that launched products in 2017. Its core products include customizable sanitary pads, Cramp Comfort, a foaming intimate wash and 1mm everyday liners, developed with input from a community of over 400,000 women. The company operates a subscription "auto-repeat" model (average basket three units for three months) with packs priced at Rs 133 including delivery and reports over 250,000 consumers. Nua says it has experienced 6x growth in the past year versus pre-pandemic levels and saw increased consumer usage since May 2020. Planned uses of capital and strategy include further investment in technology, growing its online community and content (monthly expert sessions with gynaecologists and mental health experts), and expanding product categories beyond menstrual hygiene. The company has also run social initiatives (Project Prerna 1 and 2) to distribute sanitary products and hygiene kits to women in rural areas and frontline workers. Nua makes customised sanitary napkins and sells them online through a direct-to-consumer model that offers subscription deliveries. Founded in 2017 by Ravi Ramachandran, Swathi Kulkarni and Projjol Banerjea, the company customises pad boxes to individual needs. It claims a community of almost 100,000 women and delivers across the country. Roughly 50% of its sales come from tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Nua plans to expand its menstrual hygiene and women’s wellness product portfolio and is considering entry into Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The company will use new funding for technology and product development, hiring, and marketing.
