Nuance Biotech is a Shanghai, China-based specialty pharmaceutical company established in 2014 and led by CEO Mark Lotter. It has built a portfolio that includes products already commercialized or in registration with the China Food and Drug Administration and a pipeline of drug candidates in clinical development. The company is pursuing in-licensing and acquisition opportunities to expand its portfolio by leveraging partner networks. Its partnership with C-Bridge Capital facilitated a licensing agreement with US-based Pacira Pharmaceuticals to advance development and commercialization in China of EXPAREL (bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension). Nuance raised US$20M in a Series B led by C-Bridge Capital, of which US$15M was tied to the acquisition of new pharmaceutical products via C-Bridge’s global network. As part of the financing, Neo Zhang, Managing Director of C-Bridge Capital, will join Nuance’s board.
