Nuclein is developing a novel hand-held, disposable, all-in-one PCR platform for infectious disease self-testing. Its battery-powered device runs real-time PCR on saliva, delivers sample-to-answer results in under one hour, requires no technical expertise, and removes the need to mail in samples. The platform is designed to detect any infectious disease target, though the company is currently focusing on COVID-19 to assist with the ongoing pandemic. The company plans to apply to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Emergency Use Authorization to commercialize a COVID-19 testing device in the near future. Nuclein has raised approximately $20 million to date, including a $14M Series B led by Trinity Private Equity Group, and currently employs about 30 scientists, engineers and other professionals. It is seeking to immediately hire additional molecular biologists, engineers, and manufacturing staff to support commercialization and growth.
