Sunshine Heart develops the C-Pulse implantable counterpulsation device, designed to help patients with Class III (moderate) heart failure by delivering additional blood and oxygen to the heart when it is resting. The company intends to use new funding to run a 20-patient feasibility study and eventually a larger pivotal clinical trial in the United States. Sunshine Heart is headquartered in Australia and Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and trades on the ASX under the ticker SHC. The C-Pulse technology was invented by Dr. William Peters, an Australian cardiologist who trained at Stanford. CEO David Rosa, formerly vice president of worldwide marketing for cardiac surgery and cardiology at St. Jude Medical, leads the company. The recent financing supports the company’s clinical development plans.
