oBike operates a dock-less bike-sharing service that was started in Singapore by Chinese founders and is present in roughly 30 cities. The company focuses on short-trip urban bike rentals using a dock-less model. In August it was part of a $45 million Series B round, though the full investor list was not publicly disclosed at the time. Grab, the Southeast Asian ride-hailing rival to Uber, quietly invested in that Series B according to a source. oBike competes directly with China-based Ofo, which has ties to Didi Chuxing. Possible future plans mentioned in coverage include integration into Grab’s app in Singapore or using Grab’s presence across eight Southeast Asian markets to help oBike expand regionally.
