Overview
ObsEva has established a late-stage clinical pipeline through strategic in-licensing and disciplined drug development, targeting reproductive health and pregnancy indications. Its development programs focus on treating endometriosis, uterine fibroids, preterm labor and improving IVF outcomes. Lead programs include nolasiban (for embryo transfer following IVF) and linzagolix (for endometriosis-associated pain and heavy menstrual bleeding due to uterine fibroids), both advancing to Phase 3. The company plans initial commercialization activities for nolasiban. ObsEva strengthened its financial position by securing a non-dilutive credit facility to support advancement of these programs. Management said the financing extends the company’s cash runway into the fourth quarter of 2020 as it advances toward key clinical and regulatory milestones. ObsEva focuses on developing a novel generation of oral therapeutics for conditions that compromise pregnancy from conception to birth. Its lead candidate, OBE001, is an oral oxytocin antagonist in Phase 2 for preterm labor and in a separate Phase 2 study for assisted reproductive technology (ART). OBE002, an oral PGF2α receptor antagonist for preterm labor, was planned to enter the clinic in 2016. The company expanded its pipeline via an exclusive license with Kissei Pharmaceutical for OBE2109, an oral GnRH antagonist for endometriosis that completed three Phase 2a studies in Japan. ObsEva is led by CEO and co-founder Ernest Loumaye, MD, PhD. The company raised financing to advance its late-stage pipeline, indicating available capital for near-term development. ObsEva is a Geneva, Switzerland–based biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative drugs for women’s reproductive medicine. It was founded in November 2012 by Ernest Loumaye MD, PhD, and André Chollet, PhD. Concurrent with its financing, ObsEva signed a licensing agreement with Merck Serono under which Merck Serono granted the company worldwide development and commercialization rights to certain compounds in the field of preterm labor. The company received a minority equity investment from MS Ventures (Merck Serono’s corporate venture fund). ObsEva closed a CHF32M Series A to fund the development of these compounds. Board representation resulting from the round includes Jasper Bos for MS Ventures and partners from Sofinnova and Novo A/S (Rafaèle Tordjman, Jim Healy and Kim Dueholm).
