Overview
Ocean Protocol is an open-source protocol and marketplace that enables secure publishing, discovery, and consumption of data while preserving privacy. It issues “datatokens” that grant access to datasets and data-based services, allowing publishers to monetize data and consumers to redeem tokens for information. The protocol runs on Ethereum and other EVM-compatible chains and is available on exchanges such as WazirX. Ocean aims to build a new Data Economy by supporting a community of builders and startups; over 150 projects have been funded via OceanDAO and Shipyard programs. Funded ecosystem projects include initiatives like Algovera, DataUnion, Data Whale, DataX, Felt, Ocean Pearl, Swash and Transport Genie, which Ocean says will help scale adoption. Ocean positions its marketplace technology to break down data silos and give data owners control and privacy while enabling monetization.
