Ocular Data Systems develops DAX, a handheld infra-red, high-definition digital video recorder designed to test and document eye movements and responses that indicate drug or alcohol impairment. The device captures nystagmus, pupil size and reaction to light, eyelid fluttering, and other signs that dash and body cameras often miss. DAX is sold to law-enforcement agencies and is intended to provide prosecutors with court-admissible audio-video evidence to help settle impaired-driving cases. To scale distribution and manufacturing, Ocular has signed a distribution deal with Decatur Electronics (Soncell North America) to cover large U.S. regions and an agreement with Stratasys Direct Manufacturing for injection molding, parts procurement and final assembly. The company reports deployments with 30 police agencies across 20 states and Canada, including Denver PD, Los Angeles PD, Colorado State Patrol, Tennessee Highway Patrol, NYPD, and the Houston PD DWI Task Force. The company is using recent financing to further develop and bring DAX to market.
