Overview
Odd.Bot develops the Maverick, an autonomous mechanical in-row weeding robot designed to replace manual and chemical weeding in high-density, high-value crops. The Maverick uses vision-based navigation to follow crop rows without external signals and can operate continuously day and night, removing weeds without chemicals to promote cleaner crops, healthier soil, and biodiversity. Each machine is expected to weed about one hectare per day and is initially trained for carrots, onions, and chicory; the company prices the Maverick around €90,000–€120,000 depending on configuration. Odd.Bot plans to offer its AI vision-controlled weeding elements separately as 'Odd.Bot Weader' for attachment to standard tractors, broadening deployment options for farmers who wish to keep existing equipment. The company has strong early market demand—16 Maverick units for 2025 have already sold out—and has expanded sales to the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France. Founded in 2018 after a TU Delft and RoboHouse student project and validated by Wageningen University & Research, Odd.Bot recently secured €2 million in pre-Series A growth capital to further develop the product and bring additional iterations to market. CEO Martijn Lukaart says production is being deliberately limited to guarantee quality and service as the company scales. Odd.bot builds the 'Weed Whacker', an autonomous robot that recognises and helps remove weeds from farmland. The company is developing weed-recognition algorithms and will assemble cameras on existing weed beds to train its detection systems. It developed the prototype in collaboration with RoboHouse and the TU Delft Robotics Institute and operates out of RoboValley. Odd.bot says the robot can reduce herbicide use and avoid the CO2 emissions and soil compression caused by tractors while lowering reliance on intensive manual labor. The startup received proof-of-concept funding from Horizon, the regional development company of the Dutch province of Flevoland, to support field testing. Odd.bot aims to deploy the first robots on Dutch fields by 2020.
