ODG (Osterhout Design Group)
153 Townsend Street Suite 570, San Francisco, California, 94107, United States
Overview
Founded in 1999 and based in San Francisco, Osterhout Design Group designs and ships augmented-reality smartglasses for military and enterprise customers. The company has spent years developing high-end optics and has focused on hands‑free utility use cases—checklists, notifications and 2D interfaces—for workers. Its current flagship R-7 model is a $2,750 head-mounted device oriented around 2D interfaces; ODG says it is experimenting with live environment mapping. In 2014 Microsoft paid around $150 million for a set of ODG wearable AR patents. ODG has largely self-funded until now and this Series A marks its first outside financing. Management is preparing consumer-facing announcements at CES and says upcoming products “will likely form the largest category of smartglasses worldwide.”
