Okosix
ROOM 923, 9/F, BLOCK 19, NO. 19 SCIENCE PARK WEST AVENUE, HONG KONG SCIENCE PARK, Sha Tin, New Territories, Hong Kong
Overview
Okosix formulates a proprietary polymer blend comprising cellulose, crustacean-derived chitosan, wax, and other compounds that decomposes completely within six months, according to international certification tests. The material is cheaper than widely used biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) while matching or exceeding PLA’s performance, and it is projected to have a carbon footprint 90% lower than polypropylene. Okosix’s initial market focus is disposable face masks, after which it plans to expand into surgical gowns, diapers, and sanitary napkins. The company operates a licensing model similar to Gore-Tex, supplying raw material to manufacturing partners such as 3M rather than producing finished goods itself; branding the material is expected to become a key revenue stream. Founder Eddie Yu started the venture after selling a previous mask business and aims to curb the healthcare industry’s heavy reliance on single-use fossil plastics. Okosix will present its technology at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025’s Startup Battlefield. To date, the startup has raised $2.3 million from its founders and other angel investors, providing the financial runway for early commercialization efforts.
