Okyanos Heart Institute is developing cardiac cell therapy that uses adipose-derived stem and regenerative cells (ADRCs) processed by Cytori Therapeutics’ Celution system. The Celution system has been approved and is commercially available in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and other international jurisdictions for various indications. The company is led by CEO Matt Feshbach and Chief Medical Officer Howard T. Walpole Jr., M.D., M.B.A. Okyanos is building a center in Freeport, Bahamas, capable of treating over 1,000 patients per year. The Bahamas passed stem cell legislation in August 2013 following recommendations from the Bahamas Stem Cell Task Force. The company has raised $14.2M to date.
