Oliver
10 Gilpin Avenue, Hauppauge, New York, 11788, United States
Overview
Oliver aggregates rental inventory directly from landlords and property managers to create a marketplace that lets renters select apartments and book appointments with landlords without a brokerage layer. The app pulls landlords’ data sources into a single interface and handles the typical application and credit-check steps that most rentals require. Cofounders Yossi Shemesh and Amir Shriki built a prototype after investing early capital and ran a proof-of-concept in August 2014, initially bootstrapping the project. The company raised a $1 million seed round from a group of New York real estate angels and launched in Manhattan about a month before the article. Since launch the site had roughly 2,000 renter visits and was serving about 200 conversions a day. Oliver said it was expanding to Brooklyn the week of the article and positions itself as an "Uber for rental" to eliminate the broker middleman.
