Omeat

11326 W Isleta St, Los Angeles, CA, 90049, United States

Overview

Omeat develops a novel cultivated meat production method that uses plasmapheresis to withdraw plasma and painless biopsies to obtain cells from living cows, rather than relying on fetal bovine serum or recombinant proteins. The company says this approach can dramatically reduce input costs and enable profitable production in 10,000‑liter bioreactors, with one cow’s plasma and cells purportedly enabling thousands of kilograms of meat per year. Omeat plans to debut with ground beef and initially focus on protein (with possible plant‑based fat supplementation), while pursuing more complete cell‑cultured fat and protein products later. It is building a pilot plant near Los Angeles that should be operational later this year to validate GMP processes. Omeat has submitted a dossier to the FDA and is in discussions with the USDA as it readies regulatory validation. Financially, the company surfaced from stealth with $40 million of funding to scale its process and build manufacturing capability.
