Omek Interactive
2 Hahar St., Ganir Center, Bet Shemesh, Jerusalem, 94134, Israel
Overview
Omek Interactive builds software tools that enable companies to incorporate gesture recognition and full-body tracking into applications and devices. Its Beckon technology converts raw depth-map data from major 3D cameras into an awareness of people, their movements and positions, which can be translated into commands for hardware or software. The platform targets consumer electronics and computer manufacturers, games and application developers, ad agencies, digital signage companies, and videoconferencing and telepresence providers, enabling NUI-style experiences like Microsoft Kinect and PlayStation Move. Partners mentioned include Lenovo’s Eedoo (Omek provides the software powering that company’s game console), PMD and Panasonic. Omek says it will use the investment to expand product and technology teams, develop new products for specific target markets, and extend business development and technical support presence in key customer regions. The Series C brings the company’s total funding to nearly $14 million. Omek’s core product is a software engine that interprets raw depth data from 3D sensors to perceive human bodies, overlay skeleton models, and recognize gestures. Its Shadow Development Suite supplies APIs, rapid development tools, and cross-platform support so developers can write applications that run on all major 3D sensors and a range of processors. The company positions this platform as sensor-agnostic middleware for TVs, set-top boxes, game consoles, PCs, digital signage, medical and fitness devices. Omek said it will use proceeds from its recent Series B to further research and development and to expand sales and marketing teams across major regions. The announcement also highlighted management hires to support growth, naming Jonathan Epstein as president and Jon Grande as executive vice president, publishing. Omek is a privately held company headquartered in Bet Shemesh, Israel, with offices in San Francisco, Seattle and Tokyo.
