OncoStem Diagnostics develops prognostic and predictive tests that assess cancer recurrence risk using proteomics and genomics-based platforms and deep scientific expertise. Its flagship product, CanAssist-Breast, predicts risk of recurrence in breast cancer patients from stage 1 through stage 3A and the company says it can help close to 50% of breast cancer patients avoid chemotherapy side-effects. The Bangalore-based startup plans to deepen research and development and to develop and automate tests for oral, brain and colon cancer. It will also use the capital to support domestic and overseas expansion. The company was founded in 2011 by Manjiri Bakre, an Indian Institute of Science alumnus who previously worked at the Genome Institute of Singapore, Avesthagen and Philips Research. OncoStem positions itself to provide cost-effective, actionable tests for personalized cancer treatment in a nascent Indian genomics and high-end diagnostics market.
