Overview

OneSignal provides a customer-engagement platform that powers omnichannel customer journeys across mobile and web push notifications, in-app messaging, SMS, and email. The company supports more than a million businesses and delivers 11 billion messages daily. It supports 500,000 mobile applications—nearly 15% of all apps—and serves companies in 140 countries, including Zynga, USA Today, Bitcoin.com, Upwork, and Tribune. OneSignal was founded in 2014 by George Deglin and Long Vo and is led by George Deglin; it has offices in San Mateo, London, and Singapore. The company is venture-backed by investors including SignalFire, Rakuten Ventures, Y Combinator, HubSpot, and BAM Elevate. It intends to use the new funding to accelerate go-to-market initiatives with a focus on omnichannel messaging and orchestration capabilities. OneSignal provides a mobile‑centric customer engagement platform that automates delivery of messages across push notifications, in‑app messages, SMS, and email. Founded in 2015 by Long Vo and George Deglin after pivoting from a Y Combinator‑backed game studio, the company centralizes user communications and personalizes campaigns to improve open rates. It has grown to over 1.7 million developers and marketers on the platform and roughly 6,000 paying customers, aided by a freemium model that does not cap users or messages. OneSignal reports gross margins over 90% and says it has focused on efficiency, continuing to grow quickly while not overspending, with the round enabling a path to profitability. The company plans to invest the new capital in machine learning, geographic expansion, and hiring, increasing headcount from 140 to about 170 by year end. OneSignal positions itself against competitors like Braze, CleverTap, and Xtremepush, emphasizing "intelligent delivery" that schedules re‑engagements based on historical user engagement patterns. OneSignal provides a push-notification delivery platform used by more than 220,000 developers, with the vast majority on its free tier. The company began as YC-backed mobile developer Hiptic Games before pivoting to notifications. Its product supports automated re-engagement campaigns with features such as localization, personalization and scheduling, and it has integrated with Alexa notifications. OneSignal’s free model lets customers use the service in exchange for sharing interest and transaction data with large brands and advertisers for improved targeting. CEO George Deglin says the platform is the most widely used push notification delivery platform based on BuiltWith and AppFigures Explorer data. Next product plans include adding support for other messaging channels. Financially, OneSignal has raised a total of $9.5 million, including a newly announced $7 million Series A. OneSignal (built by Lilomi, Inc.) provides a platform and first-party plug-ins that make it easy for developers to add personalized push notifications to native mobile apps and the web. The company recently launched support for web push notifications via a Web Push API and plans to add more platform and framework integrations. OneSignal aims to offer an affordable alternative to enterprise tools by enabling quicker setup of complex, targeted campaigns for developers and marketers. The startup rebranded from GameThrive to OneSignal to broaden its focus beyond games to all app developers and marketers. The company says more than 2,000 developers have signed up, its tools are used in 1,100 published mobile apps, and those apps reach 98 million end users. It will use its latest funding to hire developers and acquire more users.
